The Down Syndrome Education Series (DSES) is a monthly educational seminar for families of children with Down syndrome, designed to connect parents with information that will positively impact the education and well-being of their child.
Title: Sensory Processing Disorder: An Overview for Caregivers
Objectives:
Understand how to identify sensory processing disorder
Understand and recognize the signs and behaviors associated with sensory processing differences
Understand the unique sensory needs and challenges of a child with sensory processing differences
Understand the use and significance of implementing sensory based activities into daily routines
Demonstrate the use of a variety of sensory strategies
Candice Mullendore - Candice has worked in a variety of pediatric settings including acute care, NICU, early intervention, outpatient, and school-based therapy for the past 20+ years. She has extensive experience in treating sensory processing disorders, feeding delays, and oral motor therapy. She is trained in the Sequential Oral Sensory feeding program, Interactive Metronome, and is a Therapeutic Listening® trained provider. Candice has considerable experience with Astronaut Training®, Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), Beckman Oral Motor program, and is a Level I certified provider for Handwriting Without Tears®.
Kellie Costello - Kellie Costello has 15 + years of experience working in pediatrics in school based, outpatient, and preschool/early intervention settings. She has specialized training in Beckman Oral Motor, Sequential Oral Sensory Feeding Program, Astronaut Training®, Pediatric Kinesiotaping, Interactive Metronome, Therapeutic Listening®, and is Level 1 certified in Handwriting Without Tears®. Kellie has a special interest in feeding and visual and perceptual challenges in children.
