DSES - Make & Take Event - Holiday Social Stories

The Down Syndrome Education Series (DSES) is a monthly educational seminar for families of children with Down syndrome, designed to connect parents and community members with information that will positively impact the education and well-being of individuals with Down syndrome.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to use Social Stories to support children’s understanding of a Holiday routine or event. Participants will learn how to make their own Social Stories and practice using them.

Participants will:

Make 3 social stories: Receiving a Gift, Meeting Santa, and Holiday Meals.
Discuss Social Stories and their benefits.
Learn how to use Social Stories at home and at school to foster the understanding of events, expectations, and routines.
Learn how to choose appropriate visuals for Social Stories and resources available for creating your own.

*You will be given ideas for specific pictures of your child to bring to the make & take. Please bring a laptop computer or tablet with PowerPoint, if you have one available.

**Childcare is not provided. With the exception of infants, we request that you refrain from bringing children to this event.
